Bello!
My name is Valerie Torres, I’m a UNLV graphic design major interested in illustrations based on the ageless comic style. My first comic, Tiny Titans, introduced me to this modern yet diverse art style, and from then on I collected graphic novels from some of my favorite illustrators. A Californian at heart, I currently live in Las Vegas with my loving parents, enthusiastic older sister, Emily, and my rambunctious dog, Cutie. My journey began working at Crumbl Cookies as a baker making sweet treats, then moved on to become a sales associate at both my local Michael’s craft store and Daiso Japanese retail store. My employment combines both my passions for traditional arts and Japanese culture. After graduation, I plan to open a small cryptid sticker business with my best friend and continue my career journey into character design.

I am a graphic designer, and digital and traditional artist, who’s passionate about storytelling and designing striking character concepts. As the youngest child of a Hispanic family, it was challenging to discover my identity and place in the world. Additionally, watching animated cartoons during my younger years greatly influenced my growth and self-esteem, opening the door to different perspectives of how I envision the world. My greatest desire is for my audience to reconnect to their childlike wonder with the ability to relate to various characters through exciting illustrations. I can truly say I have happily embraced who I’ve become; quirks and all! My ultimate goal is to allow my audience to rediscover their unique individuality inspired by my illustrations.
